Moxoene

Moxoene one of the five provinces beyond the Tigris, ceded by Narses to Galerius and the Romans, and which Sapor afterwards recovered from Jovian. (Amm. Marc. 25.7.9, comp. 23.3.5; Le Beau, Bas Empire, vol. i. p. 380, vol. iii. p. 161; Gibbon, cc. xiii. xxiv.). Its exact position cannot be made out, though it must have been near Kurdistán. (Ritter, Erdkunde, vol. x. p. 816.)
