Lex Licinia Mucia

Lex Licinia Mucia DE CIVIBUS REGUNDIS (probably REDIGUNDIS), passed B.C. 95 by the consuls L. Licinius Crassus the orator, and Q. Mucius Scaevola, Pontifex Maximus; ordained a strict examination into the title to citizenship, as many non-cive had contrived to get themselves put on the census, and ordered back to their own civitates all who could not make out a good title. This. measure partly led to the Marsic war, and is cited by Cicero as an instance how even the wisest men sometimes pass bad laws (Cic. de Off. 3.1. 1, 47; Brut. 16, 63; pro Balbo, 21, 24; pro Sestio, 13, 30: Ascon. in Cornel. p. 67).
