Lex Julia Sumptuaria

Lex Julia Sumptuaria passed B.C. 49 by Julius Caesar (Cic. Att. 13, 7, 1; ad Fam. 7, 26, 2; 9, 15, 5). Augustus, too, seems to have re-enacted with additional severities the earlier sumptuary laws (Gel. 2.24; 43.25). [SUMPTUARIAE LEGES]
