Lex Cornelia

Lex Cornelia DE MAGISTRATIBUS, making discharge of inferior magistracies a necessary condition to the attainment of higher ones (Appian, App. BC 100, 101), and re-affirming the provisions of certain old plebiscita (Liv. 7.42, 10.13). The lex de viginti quaestoribus (Tac. Ann. 11.22) was probably merely one of its chapters (see Puchta, Institutionen, § 79, note a; Mommsen, Röm. Staatsrecht, i. pp. 519-524, 548).
