Craticulum

κρατευταί

Craticulum (κρατευταί, Il. 9.214; κρατευτήριον, Poll. 6.89; κρατευτήρια, id. 10.97), andirons or dogs, rests on each side of the fire on which a spit turns. On the derivation, see Leaf ad Il. l.c. Festus derives the Latin word from the Greek; a not very probable etymology (Fest. p. 53, M.).
