Chitonia
χιτώνια
Chitonia (χιτώνια), a festival celebrated in the Attic village of Chitone in honour of Artemis, surnamed Chitona or Chitonia, from her wearing as huntress the loose tunic, or from the place in which she was worshipped. (Schol. ad Callimach. Hymn. in Artem. 78.) The Syracusans also celebrated a festival of the same name, and in honour of the same deity, which was distinguished by a peculiar kind of dance, and a playing on the flute. (Athen. 14.629; Steph. Byz. s. v. Χιτώνη.)
