Alabastrotheca
ἀλαβαστροθήκη
Alabastrotheca (ἀλαβαστροθήκη or ἀλαβαστοθήκη), according to some a casket for unguent-bottles [ALABASTRUM], according to others a holder into which they were put when not in actual use, since, being round at the bottom, they could not stand unsupported. A representation of an alabastrotheca found on an ancient vase is shown in the accompanying figure. (Aristoph. Fragm. 463; Demosth. de F. L. p. 415.237; Pollux, 10.121; Suid. s. v.) [J.H.O]
