Riddle & Arnold A Copious and Critical English–Latin Lexicon, 1864
offertory
*ea pars cultus divini, qua pecuniam in usum pauperum conferimus; *ea pars cultus divini, qua oblationes populi offeruntur; or it may be necessary to retain *offertorium astechnical term. ☞ Offertorium, in ecclesiastical Latin, was the place where the oblations were offered: fertum enim dicitur oblatio, quae altari offertur (Isidorus, Orig., 6, 19). Freund assigns this meaning to the word in his first edition; but in his latest edition he makes offertorium = oblation, also elevation of the host (with Roman Catholics).
