“emetic” in Latin

Riddle & Arnold A Copious and Critical English–Latin Lexicon, 1864

emetic
vomitorium (Plin.): medicamentum vomificum (caelius, Aurel.). OBS. emetica (ἐμετική) is a conjectural reading of Schutz’s in caelius, ap. Cic., Ep., Fam. 8, 1, extr. emeticam facere for embeneticam facere; but in his Lex. Cic., he prefers empeneticam facere: it occurs of some mode of exciting hunger. To give anybody an emetic, aliquem vomere cogere. Tartar emetic, *tartarus emeticus. Emetic powder, *pulvis emeticus.
