Etearchus

Ἐτέαρχος

(Ἐτέαρχος).

1. An ancient king of the city of Axus in Crete, who, according to the Cyrenaean accounts, was the grandfather of Battus I., king of Cyrene. The story of the way in which he was induced to plan the death of his daughter Phronime, at the instigation of her stepmother, and of the manner in which she was preserved and taken to Cyrene, is told by Herodotus (4.154, 155).
