gĕnĭtus, a, um, Part., from gigno.
gĕnĭtus, ūs, m. gigno,
I. a begetting, bearing, generation (post-class. and very rare):
libri de animalium genitu, App. Mag. p. 297 sq.Origins
Perhaps from Proto-Italic *genatos, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵenh₁-tos, which displaced the original *ǵn̥h₁-tós, whence Latin nātus, which came to belong to a different verb. The term might connect to Oscan 𐌂𐌄𐌍𐌄𐌕𐌀𐌝 (genetaí), though the second -e- vowel of this form is unexpected.
