ŏnŏcentaurus, i, m., = ὀνοκένταυρος,
I. an ass-centaur, a fabulous animal, Isid. Orig. 11, 3, 39:
et occurrent daemonia onocentauris, Vulg. Isa. 34, 14.—Transf., of an impure person, Hier. in Isa. 6, 13, 22.Origins
From the Ancient Greek ὀνοκένταυρος (onokéntauros), an alternative form of ὀνοκένταυρα (onokéntaura, a kind of tailless ape, a kind of demon haunting wild places), presumably from ὄνος (ónos, “ass”) + κένταυρος (kéntauros, “centaur”).
