# Latin Dictionary > A free Latin–English dictionary at https://latindictionary.co. Every headword page combines Lewis & Short's *A Latin Dictionary* (Oxford, 1879), modern definitions and full inflection tables from Wiktionary, classical and ecclesiastical pronunciation, etymology with Proto-Indo-European ancestry and Romance descendants, and Latin-in-Latin definitions from the Imperial Restitution graded readers. Search recognises any inflected form (amāvisset → amō) and English words. ## How the site is organised - Headword pages: `https://latindictionary.co/`, spelled without macrons, with v for consonantal u and i for consonantal i (e.g. /amo, /rex, /iacio, /virtus). Homographs share one page (e.g. /malus for "bad", "apple tree" and "mast"). - Inflected forms resolve to their headword: `/amavisset` redirects to `/amo?form=amāvisset`, and the page states the form's grammar. - Each page ends with "Quick answers": meaning, principal parts or genitive, pronunciation, and origin, in one sentence each. ## Key pages - [Home and search](https://latindictionary.co/) - [The graded readers](https://latindictionary.co/readers): the reading ladder from first words to Vergil - [About the sources](https://latindictionary.co/about): provenance and licences ## Sources and licences - Lewis & Short (1879), Perseus Digital Library TEI edition, CC BY-SA 4.0 - Wiktionary (via kaikki.org), CC BY-SA 4.0 - Dickinson College Commentaries Latin Core Vocabulary, CC BY-SA 3.0 (frequency ranks) - Latin definitions © Imperial Restitution Press When citing, link the headword page, e.g. "amō — Latin Dictionary, https://latindictionary.co/amo".
